One hundred and fifty thousand years earlier, Lucy, with her boyfriend Australopithecus afarensis’ arm protectively over her shoulders, strolls casually across volcanic ash steppes of Central Africa, as if ambling in Central Park on a balmy afternoon. This “Earliest Human Relatives” diorama in the Human Evolution Hall is just one of many time capsules of bygone worlds.
