Nominator submitted place name to the Census of Places that Matter.

Andrew Scott Dolkart (Hudson View Gardens)

Childs was planned as an enormous restaurant that could cater to the needs of the enormous crowds that gathered on the beach on hot summer days. Childs is significant as a major architectural monument in Coney Island, as a building employing some of the most spectacular terra cotta in New York City, and as a building that exemplifies the complex history of the development of Coney Island both as a beach resort and as a year-round community.
