Opened in 1891, the 3000-seat hall has presented performances of all musical styles from around the world. Concerts related to jazz and its origins have been given there since the turn of the last century. At the forefront of presenting jazz as concert music, Carnegie Hall has been host to many of jazz’s greatest musicians. After the Newport Jazz Festival moved to New York City in 1972, Carnegie became one of its principal venues.
