Private: Urban Classroom
Sharpen your sense of observation, and sense of humor – by riding the subway. We will meet, then board the subway together to resolve each week’s artistic challenge. You will be technically guided to use drawing, writing, and pictures to deepen your skills for innovative expression. Come prepared to be moved, while moving under the City. Taught by renowned cartoonist, performance artist, and writer Flash Rosenberg.

Meet at West 35th Street, between 5th & 6th Avenues (exact address provided upon registration). Class will board the subway together.
Cut. Fold. Stitch. Make six city books from start to finish. Explore simple bookbinding from Eastern and early Western traditions. Make individual and collaborative books, one-of-a-kind books, zines, and small editions of NYC secrets–simple sewn pamphlets, stab stitch, skyline accordions, and long-stitch bindings–books that require only a few simple tools–Plus e-z pop-ups, origami-base books, flexagons, and other paper toys. See the works of contemporary book artists. Discuss how you can publish and distribute your own artist book. Taught by widely published and acclaimed bookmaker Esther Smith.
