Dreaming Rhythms, Despertando Silencios

Book release party and poetry reading by Nuyorican poet Carmen Bardeguez-Brown. With guest poets Jesús “Papoleto” Meléndez, Modesto “Flako” Jiménez, Sandra Maria Esteves, and Nancy Mercado, accompanied by Bobby Sanabria on percussion.

Free and open to the public.

Friday, February 17th, 7pm @ Bronx Music Heritage Center

Film screening of the powerful documentary Nana Dijo: Irresolute Radiography of Black Consciousness. A Q&A follows with co-director and multi-disciplinary artist, Bocafloja.

The Irka Mateo Folk Quartet provides the music of the Dominican Republic and also showcases the figure of the “Palenquera,” the female maroons of San Basilio de Palenque, Colombia, the first black town in the Americas to abolish slavery.

Free and open to the public.
