Founded in 1897, Dominican Academy is a private, all-girls, Catholic, college preparatory school operated lovingly by the Dominican Sisters of Peace and lay teachers. Dominican Academy is located in the former townhouse of Colonel Michael Friedman, the former president of New York Citys B. Altman Company. Friedman was am avid art collector and benefactor of education. Go see the Friedman Memorial Carousel in Central Park. The school is a treasury of art, including stained glass windows, marble fireplaces, woodcarvings, and wrought iron doors, all of which remain in the building, thereby creating a unique learning environment.

Dominican Academy has been recognized twice by the United States Department of Education as a “Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.” The curriculum includes Math, Science, Latin, French, History and more.
