This big marquee, dating from the early 1920s, is the only theatre in the area, located at the trolley junction hub between West Farms Square, Tremont Avenue and Southern Boulevard. On Saturday nights, people used to come from all over to view shows in the large neighborhood theatre with ornate features. In the earlier days, people could see vaudeville shows. During the Depression, the theatre gave away dishes in raffles. Throughout its life, the Chester Theatre has always been known as a place to “go out.”
