NYC Dept. of Parks and Recreation: Isham Park

Nominations

Dodie Dohoney (Cooper Union)

Situated on a high, flat, circular property, it has large grassy fields used mostly for quiet contemplation. Once the site of a mansion owned by the park’s namesake family, it must have commanded sweeping 180-degree views before the trees grew so overpowering. Now there is a quiet sitting area overlooking Broadway where two beautiful carved granite benches sit. On them is incised a sweet poem, hopefully recalling truthfully the family that once lived there: In memory of a home/Of integrity and affection/In that mansion used to be/Free hearted hospitality.
