There were still farms in Bath Beach until the 1940s. George Washington stayed at a house on 18th Avenue, between 84th and 83rd Streets, which is now a park. There is also the famous Ulmer Park where soldiers and their families lived during WWII. Also, Fort Lafayette is now the Tower for the Verrazano Bridge on the Brooklyn side.
