Join this one-day event for a closeup into the fascinating journey of Afro-Cuban dancer and educator Ismaray “Aspirina” Chacón. The program includes 3 sessions: a talk and Q&A, Rumba Columbia dance masterclass for women (men are also welcome to join!), and a live rumba concert hosted by fellow Cuban artist and curator Melvis Santa.

ABOUT THE ARTIST: Ismaray “Aspirina” Chacón
Ismaray is a dance artist, percussionist, and singer well rooted in the Afro-Cuban folkloric traditions. She is one of the youngest members of “Los Aspirina” a family of legendary rumberos and folklorists from the neighborhood of Regla, La Habana, Cuba. Graduated as a performer and Professor of Dance Technique for Spectacles and Musical Theater, Ismaray’s solid formation include being part of prestigious groups such as Obini Batá, Rumberos de Cuba and Coro Folklórico Nacional. Her international career took off immediately from her arrival in Europe in 2009. She has been invited to a number of festivals, congress and competitions, taking multi-faceted leading roles. Ismaray’s artistic trajectory and experiential knowledge about the Afro-Cuban traditions has been recognized and acclaimed in the Salsa community worldwide. Whether as a teacher, dancer, choreographer, panelist or content creator, her authenticity, charisma and dynamic style always bring the presence and contributions of women in Afro Cuban traditions to the forefront.
