WHERE I’M FROM: OPEN MIC POETRY READING

May 10 @ 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

WHERE I’M FROM: OPEN MIC POETRY READING

Let’s celebrate what sets us apart and what brings us together during this virtual open mic poetry reading. This event is tied to Across the Great Divide, an ongoing experience that will be offered throughout the 10 Days. In Across the Great Divide, participants will compose and share a poem that expresses their beliefs and origin stories. This poetry event aims to build bridges across lines of difference and bring out the individuality and common humanity of Americans from different backgrounds, political orientations, ages, genders, and parts of the country.

Get started by using the Across the Great Divide Where I’m From poem activity (https://across-the-great-divide.org/), but feel free to get creative if inspiration takes you in another direction! Hosted by poet Darius Daughtry, the program will kick off with readings by a diverse group of featured poets. Once we open the floor, we invite you raise your hand (virtually) to share your poem.

Brought to you by City Lore HistoryMiami Museum (Miami), Art Prevails (Miami), and Bowery Poetry (NYC).

Using poetry and performance, we hope to bring out the individuality and common humanity of Americans from different backgrounds, political orientations, ages, genders and parts of the country.

If you’re unable to join us on May 10th for the Where I’m From: Open Mic Poetry Reading, please use this form to send us a recording of yourself reading your poem. Note that not all submissions will be presented during the program due to time constraints. Please keep recordings under 2 minutes.
