[Special Event] The Poetry of Basketball with Walt Clyde Frazier
October 16, 2014 @ 7:00 PM| $40
Upon his retirement, Frazier went into broadcasting. With a remarkable skill for rhyming that rivals Muhammad Ali, Walt “Clyde” Frazier calls the Knicks basketball games with the players “swishin’ and dishin’,” “shakin’ and bakin’,” “movin’ and groovin’, “wheelin’ and dealin’, “dancin’ and prancing,'” or “stumblin’ and bumblin’, and when they foul, “hackin’ and wackin’.” His phrases have even been mapped according to how many particular “Clydeisms” he uses in any give quarter. He uses slightly more when the Knicks are “winnin’ and grinnin’.” There is even a drinking game played during Knicks games in which players have to take a shot when he utters one of a set number of his classic phrases like “feline quickness” or “swiss cheese defense.” He preaches the poetry of basketball on the microphone – every action on the court must be done with “fire and desire”.
