Aurelio Del Muro | Visual Arts and Music

Artist’s Bio:

Making art and music has been my refuge and connection to my culture, history, and background. I am an educator, an artist, and a musician. I was born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, and came to New York City in 1978. I discovered the art of stone carving in 1983 while in college and for many years, I dedicated all my artistic efforts to that medium.

In 2000 I began playing the cello and took my art in a new direction, exploring the human figure using charcoal and ink. I became a teaching artist and I continued drawing everywhere I went in the city, creating a lot of subway sketches. During the pandemic, I drew one or two trees, and in August 2020, I was accepted at The Bronx River Art Center studio program. I experience an upsurge of creative energy and began doing large scale drawing.

In 2022, I made a large-scale mural in partnership with Marta Blair inspired on a poem by Julia de Burgos. Afterwards, I continued doing community engagement projects inspired also by art and poetry and this past summer, I had a solo show as part of the artists in residency program at BRAC.
