One of the most important things we can do right now is to tell our own stories. To this end, City Lore and Muslim Writers Collective will be hosting Resistance is Existence: NY Youth Story Slam, an evening of dynamic storytelling on Saturday, March 11, 2017.

We solicited applications from young people who wanted to share their genuine stories–stories that reflect awkward, poignant, frustrating, and joyful moments in their lives. We selected 5 great storytellers, who then received coaching in the art of engaged storytelling from master storyteller Adil Ibrahim. Come hear: Maryam Chadury, Rehnuma Kabir, Mohamed Morshed, Mahfuzur Rahman, and Kambiz Roghanchi share their lived stories with you! We will also have an open mic, where audience members are invited to share their stories.

Get your tickets online in advance: Adult Tickets are $10 and Youth Tickets (under 21) are $5. Tickets at the door will be $20, subject to availability. Proceeds will be used to support City Lore’s youth programming. Refreshments will be served.

Resistance is Existence: NY Youth Story Slam is brought to you by City Lore in partnership with Muslim Writers Collective, a grassroots initiative dedicated to promoting storytelling in the Muslim American community. The event is produced in conjunction with City Lore’s current exhibition Poetic Voices of the Muslim World, on view now through May 14th.
