Performing Loisaida: A Poets’ Jam in the Spirit of the New Rican Village

May 23, 2014 @ 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM

| Free

Loisaida FestivalProduced in collaboration with the Loisaida Festival

This event will bring together poets and musicians in a celebration of the performance fusions that evolved throughout Loisaida/the Lower East Side during the 1960s and 1970s at iconic venues such as the New Rican Village. Dedicated to the memory of legendary poets/playwrights/performers Tato Laviera and Amiri Baraka, the event will bring together a multigenerational array of voices to remember and celebrate this alternative Lower East Side history. Performing at the event will be poets Sandra María Esteves, Jesús Papoleto Meléndez, David Henderson, Edwin Torres, LaTasha N. Nevada Diggs, and Urayoán Noel, along with musician Bobby Sanabria and one or more special guests. The event will also feature screenings of rare footage from the era.
