GET LITE Screening, Panel, Performance
June 17, 2017 @ 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM |
On Saturday, June 17th, join us for the world premier of fimmaker Lance Steagall’s GET LITE, a new documentary about NYC’s Litefeet culture.
Litefeet is the new American dance; a dance done by hustlers and dreamers qua criminals; a dance of ambition and talent in pink poodle shoes; a dance of underprivileged youth looking for a break in a city that’s criminalized their movements.
GET LITE is a documentary film featuring Litefeet dancers, known to most New Yorkers for their cries of SHOWTIME! on the subway. Featuring KIDD PATT, JAYY BLACK, LARRY SMOOVE, and many more, GET LITE follows these dancers above ground into the projects, public spaces, and dance studios of NYC, shining a light on the extensive roots, and fruits, of their culture and the reality of those living it.
Saturday, June 17th
56 E. 1st Street, New York, NY 10003
$5 at the door
The screening will begin at 7pm at the City Lore gallery. Following a panel discussion with the dancers and Director/Producer Lance Steagall, we will head across the street to First Street Green Art Park (33 E. 1st Street), where the dancers will “get lite” until dark.
