Bronx Rising! Talk to the Hand: Storytelling Through Movement

Bronx Music Heritage Center
1303 Louis Nine Blvd., Bronx, New York 10459

The program will open up with a performance of Bollywood style dances by the Bharati Dance Academy and henna hand painting Bharati Kemraj.  Explore hand-clapping games and hand gestures as a storytelling tool with a screening of the documentary ‘Let’s Get the Rhythm‘ by Irene Chagall. Followed by a Q&A featuring interviewees from the film, led by percussionist Bobby Sanabria and dancer Dionne Kamara. A performance of Indian semi-classical dance by Bharati Kemraj, will connect hand-clapping games seen in the film with the mudras (hand movements) used in Indian classical dance.

We are located steps from the 2/5 train at Freeman St. Parking accessible.

Admission: $7 | $5 for students and seniors | FREE for kids 12 & under + IG residents.
