| Free

Nowruz Final for CL Web

The Bronx Music Heritage Center and City Lore teamed up to create this awesome family-friendly double-header celebration of Persian New Year (Nowruz)! Nowruz, which means “New Day,” is an ancestral holiday marking the first day of spring and is celebrated by 300 million people around the world.

5:30pm: Crafting Nowruz – A Family Workshop
In this craft workshop, families will learn about the holiday and create their own Nowruz table display, including painting eggs. Co-facilitated by Sareh Imani and City Lore’s Sahar Muradi.

7pm: Bronx Rising!: Persian New Year: Nowruz
Reading: Amir Vahab will read the poetry of Hafez, which is also used to tell fortunes! Audience members will be able to ask their own questions to the poet. Yay!
Music: Vatan, or “homeland” in Persian, is a group of Middle Eastern-American musicians who blend the lines between Persian folk music and country, funk and rock, as they revive classic tunes while building new ones.

Free and open to the public!

Presented in conjunction with the City Lore exhibit, Poetic Voices of the Muslim World. Co-Sponsored by City Lore.
