My Home, New York

City Lore welcomes you to a night of poetry in Yiddish and English, recited and projected onto the beautiful facade of the historic Eldridge Street Synagogue in the Lower East Side. Among the Yiddish poets participating are NEA National Heritage Fellowship winner – Beyle Schaechter-Gottesman; columnist at the Yiddish Forward newspaper – Yoel Matveyeev; writer, translator Mindl Rinkewich; and Gitl Schachter-Viswanath, poet and editor of the English-Yiddish dictionary. These Yiddish poets, representing several generations have been meeting together for many years, and have represented contemporary Yiddish poetry in New York on a number of occasions in the Bowery Poetry Club, Manhattan JCC, and for City Lore and the Congress for Jewish Culture. The event will open with Yiddish music performed by Lisa Mayer and Sruli Dresdner. We hope to see you there!
