The Ghetto Brothers featuring Benjy Melendez

On Thursday come see The Ghetto Brothers play live in the Bronx. think Latin music with Beatles’ style harmonies. Former gang members (featured in Flyin’ Cut Sleeves), they formed a band in the 1970s and recorded the album, Power Fuerza. Celebrate the 40th anniversary of the album, Power Fuerza, and its recent reissue at this album release show.

Featuring artists and art forms born in or relevant to the Bronx, the Bronx Music Heritage Center (BMHC) Laboratory’s Fall/Winter Performance Series is curated by City Lore Folklorist Elena Martínez and Grammy-nominated musician Bobby Sanabria.

Elena Martínez is a folklorist at City Lore and a member of the Bronx Music Heritage Center Advisory Board, which supports the BMHC mission to preserve and promote Bronx music, cultivate Bronx artists, spur neighborhood revival and provide free cultural programming for the community.  Together with BMHC Master Musician Bobby Sanabria, Elena curates the Bronx Rising! series, co-sponsored by City Lore.
